CHAPTER 7
Mercedes ran inside the cabin. âEmma wait!â she yelled.
Emma had already packed up her bedding. She was now stuffing things into her suitcase as quickly as she could. She was done with this horrible haunted camp.
âMiss Amy, youâre sure sheâs coming tonight?â asked Emma, working her way towards the cabin door.
âYes dear. Your mom said sheâs leaving right after work to come pick you up,â answered Miss Amy. âIt will still take her hours to get here.â
Giselle and Evangeline could do nothing as Emma walked out the cabin door with Miss Amy. They were sad to see her go, but what could they do?
Mercedes couldnât just sit there. She ran outside and her sisters followed. She yanked on Emmaâs suitcase to get her attention.
âAre you sure? Do you really have to leave?â asked Mercedes.
Emma stopped for just a moment. The beautiful swaying trees and quiet campground made the scary scene on the trail almost seem like it never happened.
âIâm sorry. I canât stay here anymore. IâIâIâm too scared,â she whispered. âIâm waiting in the office and leaving the second my mom gets here.â
âHow is the office any safer?â asked Evangeline. âIâm just saying the Ghost Horse is supposed to only appear on Graveyard Hill. Now heâs showing up in the forest. Who knows, the office might be his next stop.â
âEvangeline, letâs not make it worse!â added Giselle. âSheâs going home.â
The GEM Sisters joined Miss Amy in walking Emma to the office.
Miss Amy did not like how Emmaâs mood was affecting the other campers. A bad mood travels fast, and she couldnât afford to lose any other girls.
âI know you think you saw a ghost, but I know for a fact that you didnât,â explained Miss Amy. âMy grandfather tells these stories that make your imagination run wild. But Iâve been at this camp my whole life. I promise, the Ghost Horse isnât real.â
âBut how can you be so sure?â asked Mercedes. âSo many campers have seen it.â
Miss Amy continued, âEvery year campers supposedly see Bigfoot, or ghosts, or some type of swamp creature in the lake. But theyâre always just shadows, wooded animals, or faraway objects reflecting the moonlight.â
Emma stopped and looked directly at Miss Amy. âI know what I saw.â
They walked in sad silence the rest of the way to the camp office. Chief Black Feather was waiting by the door. The GEM Sisters gathered around Emma for a final group hug.
Giselle looked at Emma gently. âI think youâre very brave. If you arenât having fun, then this is the right choice for you.â
Evangeline pulled out a treat from her pocket and added, âBut we will miss you! Here, have some lollipops for the road.â
âThanks GEM Sisters. You guys are so special to me. I will remember our good times together,â said Emma. âOh, and Mercedes I almost forgot. Hereâs your phone.â
With all the Ghost Horse drama, Mercedes had forgotten that she had given her phone to Emma.
Fewf, thought Mercedes. That was a close one.
âI hope my filming helps you get on the Horse Divas show!â said Emma.
