CHAPTER 7

Mercedes ran inside the cabin. “Emma wait!” she yelled.

Emma had already packed up her bedding. She was now stuffing things into her suitcase as quickly as she could. She was done with this horrible haunted camp.

“Miss Amy, you’re sure she’s coming tonight?” asked Emma, working her way towards the cabin door.

“Yes dear. Your mom said she’s leaving right after work to come pick you up,” answered Miss Amy. “It will still take her hours to get here.”

Giselle and Evangeline could do nothing as Emma walked out the cabin door with Miss Amy. They were sad to see her go, but what could they do?

Mercedes couldn’t just sit there. She ran outside and her sisters followed. She yanked on Emma’s suitcase to get her attention.

“Are you sure? Do you really have to leave?” asked Mercedes.

Emma stopped for just a moment. The beautiful swaying trees and quiet campground made the scary scene on the trail almost seem like it never happened.

“I’m sorry. I can’t stay here anymore. I—I—I’m too scared,” she whispered. “I’m waiting in the office and leaving the second my mom gets here.”

“How is the office any safer?” asked Evangeline. “I’m just saying the Ghost Horse is supposed to only appear on Graveyard Hill. Now he’s showing up in the forest. Who knows, the office might be his next stop.”

“Evangeline, let’s not make it worse!” added Giselle. “She’s going home.”

The GEM Sisters joined Miss Amy in walking Emma to the office.

Miss Amy did not like how Emma’s mood was affecting the other campers. A bad mood travels fast, and she couldn’t afford to lose any other girls.

“I know you think you saw a ghost, but I know for a fact that you didn’t,” explained Miss Amy. “My grandfather tells these stories that make your imagination run wild. But I’ve been at this camp my whole life. I promise, the Ghost Horse isn’t real.”

“But how can you be so sure?” asked Mercedes. “So many campers have seen it.”

Miss Amy continued, “Every year campers supposedly see Bigfoot, or ghosts, or some type of swamp creature in the lake. But they’re always just shadows, wooded animals, or faraway objects reflecting the moonlight.”

Emma stopped and looked directly at Miss Amy. “I know what I saw.”

They walked in sad silence the rest of the way to the camp office. Chief Black Feather was waiting by the door. The GEM Sisters gathered around Emma for a final group hug.

Giselle looked at Emma gently. “I think you’re very brave. If you aren’t having fun, then this is the right choice for you.”

Evangeline pulled out a treat from her pocket and added, “But we will miss you! Here, have some lollipops for the road.”

“Thanks GEM Sisters. You guys are so special to me. I will remember our good times together,” said Emma. “Oh, and Mercedes I almost forgot. Here’s your phone.”

With all the Ghost Horse drama, Mercedes had forgotten that she had given her phone to Emma.

Fewf, thought Mercedes. That was a close one.

“I hope my filming helps you get on the Horse Divas show!” said Emma.
